This issue is loosely based upon Fantastic Four Volume 1, #130. Both here and in #130 the Frightful Four team of Wizard, Sandman, Trapster and Thundra initially defeat the Fantastic Four, only to lose by the end of the issue. The main difference is that in Fantastic Four #130 it takes the powers of toddler Franklin Richards to wake up the Thing and turn the tide. Here Franklin is not needed for the victory.
